I previously worked in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, where I was responsible for tasks related to innovation policy. During that time, I had the opportunity to study abroad in the United States. While in the U.S., I noticed that data science and coding were gaining popularity. Despite having a background in the humanities in my undergraduate studies, I decided to start learning these subjects from scratch.
After returning to Japan, my interest remained steadfast, and I enrolled at the University of Tokyo, joining the Matsuo Laboratory to conduct research related to AI. Ultimately, I earned a doctoral degree in engineering (2014). Initially, my research was aimed at contributing to the work of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. However, my desire to make a meaningful societal impact through data science grew stronger, leading me to co-found bestat in 2018.
3D.ai (3D contents creation system)
We possess a proprietary system that automatically generates 3D models based on photos and videos, and these automatically created 3D models are then further refined with human intervention. The 3D digital content we produce can be output in various formats, including URLs for display on websites and in AR applications.
By semi-automating the traditionally labor-intensive process of 3D model creation, we enable the rapid production of 3D digital content within a short timeframe. Some companies have already started using our product, and we plan to have an official release by the end of 2023 as we continue our validation process. The ability to semi-automatically create 3D models based on inputs such as images is a rarity on a global scale, and we believe this aspect will be quite attractive to potential users.
While some individuals may have a skeptical view of 3D digital content, just as photos have become commonplace and expected in the past, there is no doubt that a wave of 3D content is on the horizon. We aim to provide services that will help expedite the realization of a future where such content is widely used worldwide and accessible for anyone to create and enjoy.

“3D.ai” allows you to create highly accurate 3D contents simply by taking pictures of the object with your smartphones. bestat has developed software that can almost automatically create 3D models using AI and only finishing is done by human’s hand. While there are other 3D model creation apps, bestat’s high-quality service is welcomed and used by manufacturers and others who demand accuracy.

“3D.ai” can automate up to 80% of the work performed by 3DCG production companies and it makes possible to produce 3D content at low cost, which previously would have cost an enormous amount of money. Since work time can also be shortened, companies that have been hindered by budgets and human resources can now easily use 3D content.
– Support for 3D contents and post-production care
After 3D contents are created, there are difficulties in using them. “3D.ai” solves this problem, as 3D models cannot be uploaded directly to a browser for viewing. The output 3D data can be converted to CAD, output with any extension, and even AR and VR are supported, so it can be used immediately after creation. bestat’s services are user-friendly and designed with customer use in mind. For example, 3D content for new products can be viewed simply by placing a QR on the company’s web catalog, or products can be viewed in a VR space by accessing a link.
Another feature of bestat’s service is that data can be easily shared within and outside the company, allowing for centralized management and easy confirmation by other departments.
– Expanding Market, Expanding Possibilities
3D content has been used for design and development work and entertainment such as movies, but in recent years, it has come to be used in a variety of situations such as e-commerce, VR, AR technology development, and digital twins. The 3D content market is rapidly expanding, but each industry requires different types of content. For example, the manufacturing industry requires error-free and accurate content, while the game industry and entertainment industry require content with a taste that matches the image of the work. Although it is difficult to satisfy all of these requirements, bestat, which can already produce 3D models with errors within 1%, is in high demand in the manufacturing, construction, and real estate industries.
In the future, while expanding markets such as the manufacturing industry, they plan to further develop content production tools suited to other industries and expand the markets they can serve. In addition, there is demand from overseas, and the company will explore the possibility of expanding its sales channels to countries where the manufacturing industry is thriving.
